Learn more about NAD

NAD+ is short for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. NAD+ is an essential coenzyme in the body that regulates cellular energy metabolism and mitochondrial function. The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell where energy is made and regulated. We now understand that mitochondrial health equals overall health. Increasing NAD+ levels results in more efficient gene transcription, energy regulation, DNA repair, gene expression, and cell signaling. Improving NAD+ levels is now considered the pivitol process for improving cardiovascular health, weight management, anti-aging, cognitive function and neuro-protection. NAD+ is the most important cellular co-factor for improvement of mitochondrial performance and energy.

Chronic illness is a rampant medical condition plaguing millions. These conditions typically do not have a cure and are managed through medication and lifestyle changes. For many people, it is difficult to do the things they enjoy and often leads to depression and a feeling of hopelessness. NAD+ therapy has been shown to be capable of dramatically reducing symptoms of these illnesses by boosting the body’s natural cell repair. In addition to chronic illness, NAD+ has been used to treat chronic stress, depression and anxiety. Long-term stress depletes our mental and physical health in tremendous ways. It impedes our sleep, digestion, healing and cognitive abilities. Chronic stress can be an underlying contributor to autoimmune diseases, heart disease, osteoarthritis, obesity, depression, anxiety and more. Many mental health conditions cannot be explained by a chemical imbalance or deficiency alone, but experts are learning that NAD+ levels do play a role. If your depression or anxiety is caused by stress, medications, or mood disorders, we believe that it may benefit you to incorporate NAD+ into your treatment plan.

The treatment of NAD+ deficiency diseases is in it’s infancy. Although we’ve know for some time how dramatically effective NAD+ treatment is for drug and alcohol disorders, we’re now finding that it can be a very effective treatment for Alzheimers Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, migrane headaches, PTSD, depression and RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). NAD+ has already shown promise as a therapy for several neurogenerative conditions. Dr. Metsayer and his group at the Springfield Wellness Center have repeatedly shown that administering NAD+ clinically improves PTSD, RSD, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimers Disease. The clinical results are far greater than those results achieved by conventional pharmaceuticals.

To illustrate how powerful NAD+ is as a factor in aging, just look at the work of Dr. Sinclair and his colleagues at Harvard. They published a ground breaking paper which found that increasing NAD+ levels in older mice made the mitochondria of a 2 years old mice resemble those of a 6 month old mice when evaluated for critical biochemical markers of muscle health. In humans, that would be the equivalent of a 60 year old’s mitochondria becoming more like those of a 20 years old. The mitochondria were “rejuvenated”.

Scientists in Lausanne Switzerland showed that mice on a high fat diet who had their levels of NAD+ increased gained 60% less weight than mice on the same high fat diet without the NAD+ levels increased. The scientists described the effects on metabolism as ” nothing short of astonishing”.

It may be NAD+‘s favorable profile on enhanced mitochondrial functioning and protection against age related axonal degeneration that demonstrate it’s ability to benefit patients with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimers Disease.

Nobel Laureate Dr. Roger Kornberg commented, ” ..to increase NAD+ in humans has significant positive implications and may be a cornerstone to developing solutions to delay or reverse the effects of aging, obesity and disease. “

Frank Jaksch, founder and CEO of ChromadDex, commented. ” Increases NAD+ in humans is a landmark result and a significant bridge between the numerous animal studies previously conducted that have demonstrated not only an increase in NAD+, but also a broad range of therapeutic benefits. Dysfunctional cellular energy metabolism in mitochondria is increasingly implicated in diseases of aging, autoimmune disease, muscle wasting, neuropathies and other conditions.”

As organisms age NAD+ levels decline. This leads to a decline in mitochondrial health which contributes to age related health issues. Sirtuins are a group of enzymes which play key roles in longevity. NAD+ control the access of sirtuins to transcription of genes. When the sirtuins are protected, aging slows and in some cases even seems to be reversed.

Our clinic’s experience using NAD has been nothing more than miraculous.

Patients who come to our clinic are also benefiting from the shared knowledge of leaders across the world who are using NAD+ in other chronic diseases. We’re excited to share this ground breaking treatment with our community.

Dr. Starr prescribes Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) for intravenous administration under the supervision of our trained registered nurses. NAD+ treatments are performed in our outpatient infusion rooms. While each infusion session typically takes a full 6-8 hours, the duration of NAD+ treatment typically requires 10 (or more) sessions to ensure complete results. At the end of treatment, patients report a great reduction or complete absence of symptoms. There is an increase in clarity with improved focus, higher energy levels and improvement in mood. Dr. Starr is available to answer any questions you have regarding the nature of the treatment or associated risks, and the medical team assigned to your care will be available throughout your treatment to respond to any medical or psychiatric emergencies that could potentially arise.

Here is an article that does a fairly good job of explaining NAD and Brain Restoration therapy.

Interview with Dr. Ken Starr on AddictionBlog.org about Brain Restoration Therapy. We were pleased to be the featured interview for the November edition.

Article from Western Journal of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology. May-June 1961 by Dr. Paul O’Hollaren. This articles demonstrates the benefits of NAD for alcoholism, opiates and tranquilizers. It was previously called DPN or Diphosphopyridine Nucleotide which is the same as what we now call NAD. Conclusions noted:

  1. NAD alleviates withdrawal considerably
  2. Cravings are completely removed
  3. Emotional and mental attitude improves
  4. No toxic reactions or side effects are noted in over 11,000 patients treated.

NAD Therapy! Too Good to be True? This is a history of what we know about NAD and it’s general role in biology and cell chemistry. It’s not related specifically to addiction, but it’s very informative and serves as a good foundation.
